Doha, Qatar – 21 May 2018: The Doha Chapter of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (DCICAI) holds its flagship cricket fiesta for members every year. For the first time in the history of this tournament, there was an unprecedented response from its members whereby six teams participated. This year also marked the introduction of a Women’s Cricket match. The tournament was conducted over a period of one month in April 2018 and Quantum Global Solutions (Quantum) emerged as the worthy winners of the coveted trophy.
The six teams that participated in the fiesta were Doha Bank, Aster Medical Centre, Quantum Global Solutions, Al Balagh, Go Mosafer and CenterPoint. More than 85 Chartered accountants participated in the event with the Quantum team being represented by Rajesh Singh, Finance and Administration Director and Aneesh Kuruppath, Finance Manager.
In the quarter-final and batting first, Team Aster scored 128 runs in 20 overs and Team Quantum chased this score by losing just two wickets within 16.1 overs. ‘Man of the Match’ was Rajesh Singh from Team Quantum.
The semi-final match was with Team CenterPoint where Team Quantum scored 125 runs within the allotted 15 overs and defeated heavyweight Team CenterPoint with the disciplined bowling restricting them to a meagre total of 98 runs in 15 overs. ‘Man of the Match’ was Pankaj Singvi from Team Quantum.
The Grand Finale was held at the Old Ideal Indian School on the 29th of April 2018 starting with the women’s cricket followed by the men’s finals. Team Mosafer won the toss and elected to bat first and scored a commendable 165 runs in 20 overs. It seemed a mighty task for Team Quantum due to the excellent bowling performance of Team Mosafer in the previous matches. Many spectators in the ground felt that this was daunting total especially under the lights and pressure of the final game. Defying the odds and with several nail biting moments during the match, Quantum Global Solutions chased the total in 19.1 overs.
‘Man of the Match’ award was given to Rajeesh Nair from Team Quantum for his brilliant all round performance. ‘Man of the Series’ was awarded to Rajesh Singh from Team Quantum for his powerful batting performance in the tournament.
More than 300 members of the ICAI Doha Chapter and their families attended the final event. The event also included the Chapter’s first ever women’s cricket tournament with 24 ladies taking part in the cricket game. Chief guest of the evening was Raman Subramanian who was an Olympian and gold medallist in the Commonwealth games and Arjun Award Recipient for table tennis. Peter Murphy, Quantum’s Managing Director also attended the event.
“This is the first time Quantum has participated in the DCICAI Annual Cricket Fiesta and one we hope to repeat in the future. Other than the fun element, the different training sessions and closely fought matches gave both young and seasoned members of our industry the opportunity to network and interact with one another in a casual way. We wish to thank the DCICAI committee for arranging this fantastic event and look forward to defending our title next year,’’ said Rajesh Singh.
“We are very excited to beat a good team in the finals. We fought really hard and every one contributed to the victory. It was an enjoyable experience and we look forward to participate in the tournament next year,” said Aneesh Kuruppath.
