As part of Quantum’s Asian Lecture Series, Tom Kapapa, Operations Director and Steven Beaumont, Regional Director Asia, made a series of presentations in Tokyo, Japan and Hanoi, Vietnam to members of the Overseas Construction Association of Japan Inc (OCAJI) on “How to win claims under FIDIC, and Dispute Adjudication Boards – the answer to successful claims.”
The presentation, provided the OCAJI members attending with an in-depth overview of why claims are necessary and the key ingredients to a success claim. In addition, further topics discussed included payments, the difficulties with Concurrency and Arbitration. Both presentations concluded with a lively question and answer sessions focusing on key aspects of the construction industry affecting Japanese contractors working overseas.
Speaking following the event Beaumont and Kapapa stated, ‘’Recent reports have highlighted that aligned to the country’s 2020 Vision the Japanese construction industry is projected to grow at a rate of 1.2 percent annually through 2019. Civil engineering works continue to drive growth showing a slightly higher rate of expansion than the buildings industry as the country develops road, rail and airport facilities. The upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games infrastructure and commercial projects will be a source of additional growth. The audiences in both Tokyo and Hanoi appreciates these opportunities and the issues they face on International projects.
