Following the launch of Quantum Global Solutions (QGS) ‘Donate a Day’ employee volunteer programme the company undertook their first community projects recently.

Over 100 employees and their families took part in designing and building the Quantum Children’s Garden at the Maktaba Children’s Library.  The garden, part of the library grounds, was transformed through the planting of fruit trees, a vegetable garden, pots of flowers, window boxes and a sensory garden with scented flowers and herbs.  Quantum also provided a shaded gazebo area for outdoor arts and crafts and reading hours in the winter months and a range of gardening equipment.

Maktaba Children’s Library (www.maktabaqatar.org) is one of the first children’s libraries in Qatar.  The library is open to the public and welcomes children from toddlers to teenagers with a range of story time sessions, research facilities and a book lending service.  The library is a non-governmental not-for-profit organisation funded through, membership, partnerships and grants.

QGS ‘Donate a Day’ employee volunteer programme enables employees to donate two working days per year to charitable organisations within their working day or at the weekend where they will be entitled to a day off in lieu.

  • Following the event Peter Murphy, QGS Managing Director said, “Maktaba Children’s Library is a wonderful project for families in Qatar and as a family focused organisation we were proud to start our volunteering programme at Maktaba. Throughout the day, despite the warm weather, our volunteers got straight to work in the garden pulling out old plants, digging vegetable beds, assembling garden furniture and planting flowers to brighten the old garden area and develop an outdoor reading and educational space for library visitors.”
  • Sarah Champa, founder of Maktaba also stated, “We were thrilled that QGS selected Maktaba for their Donate a Day programme. As a community based organisation, we seek out partners who share our commitment to the community and the QGS team clearly demonstrated that with all their hard work on the day. Now, we have a wonderful outdoor space to share with our members and the community as a whole. “

Continuing Murphy noted, “Our first QGS Donate a Day was a tremendous success and we’d like to thank Sarah and the Maktaba team for welcoming our employees and their families to Maktaba.  QGS is committed to the further development and maintenance of the garden by our volunteers and to formalising our long-term partnership in the near future.”

A separate team of Quantum volunteers also volunteered at PAWS Rescue Centre on the same day.
