After a hard won battle, Quantum’s Asian Tigers were confirmed victors at the company’s first Quantum Global Football Cup held on Friday, 31st March at Doha College Sports Ground.
The event, part of the company’s annual team building initiatives, divided football playing employees into four teams; Asian Tigers, Middle Eastern Desert Snakes, African Elephants and European Dragons, representing areas where Quantum has office locations. Victors on the day, the Asian Dragons won after a heated final game against the Desert Snakes. After receiving the cup, Asia team captain, Stuart ‘Catch all’ Porter said, “The Asian Dragons had a great team playing today comprising Chris ‘Cropper’ Burley, Jack ‘Speedy’ Murphy, Rudra ‘Dribbler’ Bahadur and Tembu ‘Striker’ Vincent. We had to fight hard and the Desert Snakes were worthy opponents.”
Organiser of the event and captain of Team European Dragons, Michael Davis stated, “Today was a great day and well worth all the effort made ahead of the game. Despite some of the five-aside teams having collective ages well over 200 years (and a lot of cheating) everyone fought a good game.”
“Quantum Global Cup is a way to engage employees and their families in a fun family activity and connect with their colleagues who they may not see on a daily basis. Today’s event was a great success with everyone attending having a great day. The children particularly enjoyed acting as mascots cheering on their parents and also taking part in their own mini Quantum Global Cup events. Congratulations to the winning team and we look forward to a re-match next year”.
Over 60 employees and their families attended the event. Children’s activities also included a football slalom and football penalty shoot-out won by Anya Woodward.
The four global teams were awarded trophies for their participation in the event with medals presented to the children participating on the day.
